What the second night adds

With one night at Dhordo you see the salt once, at sunset, and leave after breakfast. A second night changes the shape of the trip. You visit the White Rann twice, at opposite ends of the day, and there is a full day in the middle that is not organised around catching a coach. That slack is the difference between ticking off the Rann and actually settling into it.

Evening salt, morning salt

The two visits are not repeats. At sunset the flats take on warm colour as the sun drops towards the horizon, and the sunset point is at its busiest. At sunrise the light arrives from the opposite side of the sky and the whole scene feels cooler and stiller. Photographs from the two sessions rarely look alike. Dress for the early start: December and January mornings on the open salt are properly cold, so bring a jacket, cap and gloves.

An afternoon at Kalo Dungar

Day 2’s excursion goes to Kalo Dungar, the highest point in Kutch and about 25 km beyond Dhordo. From the top the Great Rann spreads out below, and it is the clearest way to grasp how large the salt desert really is. On the way you stop at Gandhi nu Gaam, one of the Banni craft villages, so the day mixes landscape with Kutchi handwork. You are back at the Tent City for dinner and the second cultural evening.

Travelling with children or older parents

Nothing here is long or rushed: one coach journey each way, a short drive on Day 2, and everything else within the Tent City. If someone in your group uses a wheelchair, has a medical condition or needs particular food, mention it in your enquiry. We pass it on to the Tent City and ask about tent location before we confirm. Listed prices assume two people sharing a tent; rates for an extra adult or a child are given on request.

Prices and tent categories

Safar costs ₹11,500 per person on twin sharing in a Swiss Cottage for the 2026–27 season, rising to ₹15,600 in a Deluxe AC Swiss, ₹17,900 in a Premium Tent and ₹20,200 in Super Premium. Taxes are extra as applicable. The category changes only the tent; the food, programme and excursions are the same for everyone. Compare it with the shorter and longer trips on the packages page, check the full moon dates if you want a moonlit night on the salt, and send your dates through the enquiry form. Availability is confirmed when we quote, within one working day.

Day by day

  1. Day 1

Bhuj to Dhordo, sunset on the salt

The coach from Bhuj brings you to the Tent City for check-in and lunch, and the afternoon is yours. As the light softens you are taken onto the White Rann for sunset, then brought back for dinner and the cultural evening.

  2. Day 2

    Sunrise, then Kalo Dungar

Start on the salt at sunrise, when the light and mood are quite different from the evening before. After yoga and breakfast, the afternoon is spent driving up Kalo Dungar to look out across the Great Rann, with a stop at Gandhi nu Gaam along the way. Dinner and the cultural programme follow back at Dhordo.

  3. Day 3

    Back to Bhuj

Yoga and breakfast before check-out. The coach takes you back to Bhuj, pausing for the Swaminarayan Mandir and the Kutch Museum.

Good to know

  • Sunrise in December and January is cold on the open salt; pack a jacket, cap and gloves for the early start.
  • Kalo Dungar is about 25 km beyond Dhordo, so the Day 2 excursion is a short drive rather than a long day out.
  • Mention wheelchair use, medical needs or Jain meals in your enquiry so we can raise them with the Tent City before confirming.
  • Listed prices assume two people sharing a tent; extra adult and child rates are given on request.
  • Full moon nights, Christmas to New Year and the Uttarayan period can be priced above the listed rates; your quote shows the exact figure.

Questions travellers ask

Something else on your mind? Ask us on WhatsApp

Why choose two nights rather than one?

A second night lets you see the salt at sunrise as well as sunset, and frees a whole day for Kalo Dungar and a craft village without rushing. For a first visit it is a comfortable balance of time and cost.

Does Safar work for young children and grandparents?

It is planned with families in mind: the pace is unhurried and the Day 2 drive is short. Tell us about anyone with limited mobility or special meal needs, and we will raise it with the Tent City before you confirm.

What is there to see at Kalo Dungar?

Kalo Dungar is the highest point in Kutch, and from the top you look out across the Great Rann. The same afternoon includes a stop at Gandhi nu Gaam, a craft village in the Banni area.

How much does Safar cost?

Per person on twin sharing for the 2026–27 season: ₹11,500 in a Swiss Cottage, ₹15,600 in a Deluxe AC Swiss, ₹17,900 in a Premium Tent and ₹20,200 in Super Premium. Taxes are extra, peak dates can be priced higher, and your quote confirms the exact amount and availability.
