The salt and the Harappans in one trip
Virasat means heritage, and the name sets the brief. The first two days follow the pattern of our shorter trips: sunset and sunrise on the White Rann, an afternoon at Kalo Dungar and Gandhi nu Gaam, folk music in the evenings. The third day is what sets it apart. You cross the Great Rann on the Road to Heaven and spend the afternoon at Dholavira, one of the major cities of the Harappan civilisation.
How Day 3 works
Lunch first, then the drive. Dholavira is about 105 km from Dhordo, and the stretch everyone remembers is the 30 km causeway laid dead straight across the salt. At the site you walk through the excavated city and visit the ASI museum, then come back over the causeway as the sun goes down. It is a long afternoon in the vehicle, so bring water, a hat and a little patience.
One timing catch: the museum is open for fewer hours than the site, about 10:00 to 17:00, and reports say it shuts on Fridays. If your third day lands on a Friday, mention it when you enquire.
What three nights cost
Per person on twin sharing for the 2026–27 season, Virasat is ₹16,000 in a Swiss Cottage, ₹21,700 in a Deluxe AC Swiss, ₹24,900 in a Premium Tent and ₹28,200 in Super Premium, with taxes extra as applicable. Spread across three nights, it costs the least per night of our three packages in every category: about ₹5,333 a night in a Swiss Cottage, for example, against ₹5,750 on the two-night Safar. Full moon nights, Christmas to New Year and the Uttarayan period can be priced higher, and your quote shows the exact amount.
Is three nights at Dhordo too many?
Rarely, because each full day has an excursion built in and the time at the Tent City is broken up rather than idle. If you would still prefer to split the stay, we can quote a version with one night in a Bhuj hotel, or at one of the resorts near Dholavira so you can see the causeway at both sunset and sunrise. Read more about the drive in our Road to Heaven guide, and about the site on the Dholavira page.
Before you send your dates
Phone coverage near Dholavira is thin, and Jio and Vodafone are the only networks that work reliably, so save offline maps before you set off. Pack for cold nights if you are travelling in December or January. Then send your dates through the enquiry form: we check availability with the Tent City and reply with a written quote within one working day, with no payment to enquire.
